Start with the work, not the model name
The right tool should fit your project and how you verify changes. A landing page, internal dashboard and multi-user SaaS have different requirements. Before comparing plans, write three real tasks: for example, change a screen, add an access rule and fix a known bug.
Try tools with the same fictitious data and requirement. Record time, manual interventions, cost and remaining defects. The catalog’s existing editorial scores are not a new performance measurement and do not replace this trial.
Four paths to evaluate
- A first browser prototype: consider Lovable, Bolt.new or Replit when you want less setup and an immediate preview.
- An existing repository: compare Cursor, Devin Desktop, TRAE or Visual Studio Code based on workflow, permissions and available models.
- Internal tools: Appsmith offers widgets, JavaScript and data connections, with cloud and self-hosted options.
- Visual frontends and code control: WeWeb allows Vue.js export on eligible plans. Xano is an optional backend, not a mandatory purchase for using WeWeb.

For Cursor, distinguish new subscriptions from legacy Pro and Pro+ plans. Third-party models on eligible plans may be billed separately at API list prices. The TRAE entry covers the international offering, which differs from trae.cn. With Replit, AI credits and cloud services can draw on the same budget.
Questions about portability
- Can I export code and data, and on which plan?
- Does the exported app still depend on the vendor’s managed authentication, storage or functions?
- Can I use my own repository and test pipeline?
- How much work would moving to another host require?
Downloading a frontend is not the same as migrating an entire application. Test an export on a small project before accumulating data or dependencies that are hard to move.
Security and team workflows
Check roles, repository access, data processing, retention, residency and contractual terms. Do not assume enterprise security or compliance because a product generates a backend. Projects with sensitive data need appropriate technical and organizational assessment.
Devin Desktop is Cognition’s evolution of Windsurf. Firebase Studio, in contrast, is sunsetting and is not an option for new workspaces: migration must happen before March 22, 2027. Product continuity matters as much as today’s features.
Making the decision
Choose the tool that completes your realistic trial with fewer risks and a sustainable cost. Set an evaluation period, a spending threshold and an exit criterion. A reversible, tested choice is more useful than an unmeasured promise of “better AI.”
